Pioneer Library System (N.Y.) Selects Equinox and Evergreen

March 18 , 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Norcross, GA- March 18, 2010

Pioneer Library System has selected Evergreen as their next-generation Integrated Library System (ILS). Pioneer will migrate all of its 42 public libraries to Evergreen with a planned implementation date of late summer, 2010. Equinox Software will provide data migration, software configuration, and post-migration technical support.

The Pioneer Library System (PLS) is a New York State chartered cooperative public library system serving the forty-two mostly small and rural public libraries in Ontario, Wayne, Wyoming and Livingston counties. One of twenty-three public library systems in New York State, it was created to enhance services and promote cooperation among its member libraries. Chief among its services is the ILS, which has both a shared catalog and circulation system containing the holdings of all its members. Known as OWWL, the catalog facilitates locating and sharing resources throughout the system. Evergreen will bring new features to the online catalog and streamline circulation functions for the benefit of both patrons and staff. According to Roma Matott, Pioneer's Systems Librarian, "Evergreen will allow us to more easily implement new services because we have access directly to the code, database engine and other software that controls it. We drive the bus!"

Brad LaJeunesse, Equinox CEO, says "Evergreen's consortial design was a key factor in Pioneer's decision. They also expressed a desire to have greater control over their ILS and knew that open source software would be the best way to achieve that goal."
